GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Wake Forest's men's and women's teams competed in their
second outdoor event this spring, traveling to the Florida Relays in
Gainesville, FL. The women's team had one runner finish in the top-two of
her event, while the men saw a runner earn individual honors.
In women's competition, the Deacons placed second in the distance medley
relay with a time of 11:23.50. Junior Sara Day was a top-two finisher in
the individual events, placing second in the 3,000 meter run with a time
of 9:38.10. Senior Jill Snyder placed third in the 800 meters, clocking
in at 2:08.07. Senior Janelle Kraus placed fifth in the 1,500 meter run.
She ran the event in 4:27.92. Alison Anibaldi was a top-ten finisher in
that event, as well. Anibaldi placed 10th with a time of 4:36.58. The
4x1500 squad placed fourth. The quintet ran in 19:21.39. Summer Shaw was
the lone Wake finisher in the pole vault, jumping 3.15 meters, good for
eighth place.
For the men, John Stone took individual honors in the 200 meter dash, with
a time of 20.90 seconds. He also placed fourth in the 100 meter dash with
a time of 10.51 seconds. In the 1,500 meter dash, Michael Altieri took
third, running the event in 3:52.25. In the 1,500 meter dash held on
Saturday, Chris Estwanik placed fourth with a time of 3:50.74.
The Deacon 4x100 relay team placed fourth with a time of 40.39 seconds,
while the 4x1600 team ran the track in 16:17.01 to finish sixth. In the
4x1600 relay, Wake placed sixth with a time of 16:17.01, while the
distance medley team ran the track in 10:17.16 to finish eighth. In the
3000 meter steeplechase Christian Laugen placed ninth with a time of
9:29.82, while Jack Bishop completed the event in 9:58.93 to finish 13th.
Alan Susi was Wake's only competitor in the javelin throw. He threw 50.56
meters to place 14th.
Both track teams will be in action again next weekend. The women will
travel to the Rice Invitational in Houston, TX March 31-April 1, and the
men will compete at the Raleigh Relays at NC State University March
31-April 1.
