WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Two school records were broken and one was tied by the Wake Forest men's and women's track teams Friday and Saturday at the Wake Forest Relays in Kentner Stadium on the campus of Wake Forest University. The Demon Deacons enjoyed a successful home meet with the 12-team field.

Carol Merritt broke school records in the 100-Meter Dash and 200-Meter Dash winning the 100m with a time of 11.97 and the 200m in 25.22. Liz Washam tied the school record in the Pole Vault, clearing 10'4" to take second place. Jamie Grayzer won the Javelin Throw with a throw of 112'10". Wake Forest took the top three places in the 1500-Meter Run, with Sara Day winning the race with a time of 4:32.53, Kelly Brady taking second with 4:35.36 and Summer Shaw placing third in 4:36.91. The Demon Deacons made up first and second places in the 3000-Meter Run when Becca Veenstra won with a time of 10:34.58 and the runner-up was Denise Hefferin in 10:34.60. Summer Shaw and Nikeya Green finished one-two in the 800-Meter Run, running times of 2:10.50 and 2:10.91 respectively. The Demon Deacons won the 1600-Meter Relay with a time of 3:47.74. Sandra Jenkins was the runner-up in the Shot Put with a toss of 43'10". Shauna Danos was the runner-up in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 58.89.

On the men's side, Alan Susi won the Javelin Throw with a distance of 183'8". Paul Singleton won the 1500-Meter Run with a time of 3:53.03. Dave Barrett won the 3000-Meter Steeplechase with a time of 9:26.90. Wake Forest took the top three spots in the 800-Meter Run with Paul Singleton winning the race in 1:53.08, Josh Buffolino taking second in 1:54.17 and Nathan Sisco coming in third with a time of 1:54.68. Ryan Hamilton was the runner-up in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 48.18. Branston Williams was the 400-Meter Hurdles with a time of 55.28. Chris Demetra won the 5000-Meter Run with a time of 15:36. Da'Vaughn Mellerson was the runner-up in the Shot Put with a toss of 49'11". Cliff Neal was the runner-up in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 179'3". Zach Hamilton was the runner-up in the Pole Vault, clearing 15'1". T.J. Thompson was the runner-up in the High Jump, clearing 6'7".

The Demon Deacons will return to action next weekend when they travel to Gainsville, FL, to compete in the Florida Relays, March 29-April 1.
