WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -

On another beautiful day in Winston-Salem, the first full slate of events from the Wake Forest Open began on a high note for the Wake track and field teams with a second place finish in the heptathlon from junior Molly Kennedy.  The Nashville native was one of several Deacs with a solid performance on the day.

Going into the final event of the heptathlon in third place, Kennedy used a second place finish in the 800-meter run to propel back into second overall with a final score of 4,761 points.  The total was a new collegiate best for her.

Competing in his first collegiate decathlon, freshman Tyler Dodds finished with a total 6,106 points, good for 10th in the meet and a junior national qualifying mark.  He is now eligible to compete in the Junior National Championships held in Indianapolis in late June. 

Sophomore Taylor Wildman finished with a new personal best in the decathlon as well.  His point total of 6,299 was good for eighth.

Competing in the javelin, fifth-year senior Michael Hauck had a tremendous day at the throws field.  The Brookline, Mass., native's throw of 203-3 was a 12-foot personal best and was good for a seventh place finish.  The mark also surpassed the regional-qualifying standard of 202-1, earning him a spot at the NCAA Regional meet in May.

Also in the javelin, sophomore Carly Mauch had a toss of 131-9, good for seventh as well.

Senior Lindsay Neuberger achieved a regional-qualifying mark for the second consecutive week in the shot put on Friday.  Her toss of 48-2 3/4 put her in sixth.

Running into a strong headwind, freshman Caroline Vaughn also achieved a junior national qualifying mark with a time of 14.25 in the 100-meter hurdles.  The time was good for the victory in her heat and put her in the finals of the event on Saturday. 

Junior Michael Bingham ran the fourth-fastest time in the nation this season in the first heat of the finals in the 400-meter dash.  He finished as the race's top collegiate finisher in a time of 46.25, losing only to world-class hurdler Bershawn Jackson.  The time was also a regional qualifier.

Also in the 400m, sophomore Philip Warsaw broke fifty seconds in the event for the first time in his career, running a time of 49.34.

Competing in the finals of the women's 400-meter dash, junior Melissa Council finished sixth in a time of 55.01.  

Sophomore Nicole Schappert finished sixth in the finals of the 800-meter run.  Her time of 2:10.92 was a new personal best in the event.

Action from the Wake Forest Open wraps up on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. with the Cliff Neal Hammer Throw.  The first running events begin at 1 p.m. with the finals of the 100-meter dash.
