Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest men's and women's outdoor track & field teams opened the 2003 season hosting the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday at Kentner Stadium. Yale dominated the women's side with a team score of 43, while Wake Forest is in second with 16 points. The Bulldogs and Miami (OH) are even with 49 points for the men, while the Demon Deacons have a team score of 39.
Lindsay Neuberger captured the only first-place finish for the Wake Forest women on the first day of competition, throwing a 130-03 in the Discus. Elizabeth Washam took second in the Pole Vault with a mark of 10-11.75.
Fabian Davis jumped a 47-3.50 in the Triple Jump for first place and came in fourth in the High Jump with a mark of 6-4. Also in the High Jump, Luke Orman took fifth with a mark of 6-4. Tom Tymann placed third in the Discus with a mark of 145-02, while Josh Carter threw a 133-11 for fourth. Zach Hamilton finished seventh in the Javelin with a mark of 142-05.
The Wake Forest Invitational will conclude Saturday. The throwing events will take place on the throws field located across Polo Road from Spry Soccer Stadium. All the other events will be at Kentner Stadium. Saturday's events begin at 11:00 am with the women's 4 x 100M Relay.
