Wake Looks Strong on First Day of 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

Competing in his first meet since the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Championships, senior Eric Seely qualified for the finals of the 400-meter dash on Friday on the first day of the 49er Classic at UNC Charlotte.  Seely ran a time of 49.08 to finish sixth in the preliminaries and give him a spot in the finals.

Junior Melissa Council qualified for the finals of the same event, running a time of 57.41 in her qualifying heat on Friday.  Her time was good for fifth in the prelims.

Additionally, two Deacs finished in the top three in the finals of the women's 1,500-meter run.  Sophomores Nicole Schappert and Allison Kieffer finished two-three in the event in times of 4:33.98 and 4:35.76, respectively.

The Deacons will be back in action on Saturday competing in the second and final day of competition from the 49er Classic.
