FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Wake Forest University men's and women's track &
field teams concluded the indoor season Saturday at the 2001 NCAA Indoor
Championships. The Demon Deacons finished ninth in the Men's Distance
Medley Relay and fourth in the Women's Distance Medley Relay. Jill
Snyder took eighth in the Mile Run, earning All-American honors and Sara
Day placed eighth in the Women's 3,000-Meter Run, earning All-American
honors. Day and Snyder earned another All-American certificate in the
Distance Medley Relay along with teammates Carol Merritt and Nikeya
Green.
Nathan Sisco, Ryan Hamilton, Paul Singleton and Chris Estwanik raced to
a ninth place finish in the Men's Distance Medley Relay with a time of
9:41.95.
Snyder, Merritt, Green and Day shattered the school record in the
Women's Distance Medley Relay with a time of 11:13.69, good for a fourth
place finish and All-American honors for all four of the Demon Deacons.
Snyder, a senior from Lewisburg, PA, concluded her track and field
career at Wake Forest as a five-time All-American. The school record
holder in seven events ran a 4:45.29 in the Mile Run to place eighth and
earn All-America accolades in the Mile Run, to go with the All-America
certificate she earned Friday in the Distance Medley Relay, in which she
ran the lead leg for.
Day, a senior from Winston-Salem, NC, broke her own school record in the
3,000-Meter Run, finishing eighth with a time of 9:23.60, earning
All-American honors. The ACC Champion in both the 3,000 and 5,000, Day
becomes a two-time All-American after running the anchor leg of the
Distance Medley Relay on Friday.
The Demon Deacons will return to action this weekend as Wake Forest
begins the outdoor track season at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, NC.
