All three representatives of the Wake Forest track and field teams were in competition on Friday at the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships from the University of Arkansas.
Senior Michelle Sikes earned All-America honors by virtue of her third place result in the 5,000-meter run. Her time of 15:44.97 was a new personal best in the event and shattered the school record by over 12 seconds in the process. The Lakewood, Ohio, native will also be competing in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday at 7:35 p.m.
Coming in with the eighth-fastest time in the nation in the 400-meter dash, junior Michael Bingham qualified for the finals of the event after placing third in the preliminaries in a time of 46.54. The finals of the event are scheduled for Saturday at 6:55 p.m.
Sophomore Brent LaRue was forced to withdraw from the heptathlon after just two events. After finishing second in the 60-meter dash to open the competition, the Kernersville, N.C., injured his hip flexor during the long jump and was unable to continue.
The second and final day of the NCAA Championships gets underway on Saturday with the continuation of the heptathlon at 11 a.m. The 2007 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will continue to be covered online on ESPN360.
