*Blacksburg**, Va. - *The Wake Forest men's track and field team placed fifth at the ACC Indoor Championships on Saturday. The Demon Deacons finished the three-day event with 56 total points. Florida State captured the team title with 160.5 points. Clemson came in second with
95 points, followed by North Carolina in third with 64 and Virginia Tech with 60.
The Demon Deacons were highlighted by the performance of the 4x400 meter relay team comprised of Michael Bingham, Brent LaRue, Willie Idlette and Eric Seely. The team broke the school record which was set just three weeks ago at the New Balance Invitational with a new time of 3:10.99.
The Deacs beat second place Maryland by over two seconds and all four runners received all-conference honors for their performance.
Bingham placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.15 seconds, which also marked a new school record. Bingham eclipsed John Stone's 1999 mark of 21.23 in the event. Bingham earned All-ACC for his performance in the finals. Seely also reached the finals in the 200 meter dash and placed eighth with a time of 22.01.
Bingham set another school record in the 400 meter dash during the preliminaries on Friday. Bingham placed third in the prelims with a time of 47.50 seconds. Seely placed seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 47.91. Bingham's record did not last long however, as Seely in the finals ran a time of 47.43 seconds placing third in the event. Bingham finished one spot behind in fourth with a time of 47.55 seconds.
Phillip Warsaw also ran a lifetime best in the 400 meters with a time of
50.15 seconds. Senior Westin Galloway ran a season best 1:55.98 in the 800 meters and placed 15^th .
In the mile, Matt Owen reached the finals by running a personal best
4:17.53 and placed ninth with a finals mark of 4:17.97.
In the 3000 meter run, senior Sean Stevens earned all-conference honors and placed third with a time of 8:16.30. Stevens also earned all-conference honors by placing third in the 5000 meter run with a time of 14:24.80.
Brandon Bartholomew placed eighth in the 5000 meter run and John Compton shaved 10 seconds off his personal best in the event with a time of 15:21.49.
Mike Loyd placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.02 seconds. Kerry Major set a new personal record in the long jump with a distance of 7.12 meters. Boomer Peterson placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 15.49 meters.
LaRue also placed fourth in the heptathlon with a total of 5138 points.
He stood as the top freshman in the event edging out Clemson's Mike Feathers.
