BLACKSBURG, Va. -

The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Blacksburg, Va., on Saturday competing in the second and final day of compeition from the Virginia Tech Challenge.  The meet served as the final tuneup before the ACC Indoor Championships next weekend.

Highlighting the day's performances was junior Michael Bingham who improved on his seasonal-best performance in the 200-meter dash.  His time of 21.29 was good for second place at the meet and just six hundredths of a second off an NCAA-provisionally qualifying mark.  The mark is still the second-best time in the conference thus far in the season.

Senior Lindsay Neuberger finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 57 feet, seven inches.  The throw was easily her longest of the season, beating her previous best by over four feet.

Other top finishers for the Deacs include freshman Kim Vos who ran a time of 2:13.09 in the 800-meter run.  The time was good for third place overall.  In the men's 800m, fellow freshman Nicholas Lepley finished ninth in a personal-best time of 1:56.05.

In the invitational division of the 3,000-meter run, junior Liz Hankinson ran a time of 11:01.42 to finish 13th.

Back home in Winston-Salem, senior All-American and team captain Michelle Sikes was honored at the men's basketball game against Miami for recently being named Wake's 13th Rhodes Scholar.

Wake returns to action on Feb. 23 and 24 for the ACC Championships hosted by Clemson University.
