BLACKSBURG, Va. -
The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Blacksburg, Va., on Friday competing in day one of the Virginia Tech Challenge.
The Deacs had two of the top three finishers in the women's 300-meter dash, with junior Michelle Duffey finishing second in a time of 40.30 and freshman Alexandra Gove coming in third with a 40.51. In the men's 300m, freshman Jonathan Reid finished second as well in a personal-best time of 34.15.
Two Deacons qualified for the finals of the 55-meter hurdles. Freshman Caroline Vaughn ran an 8.14 in the finals of the event to finish third overall. Her time was a new personal best. On the men's side, sophomore Brent LaRue also ran a new PR, running a time of 7.45 to finish second.
The Deacs also fared well in the men's and women's shot put. Senior Lindsay Neuberger finished second with a toss of 47 feet, 7 1/4 inches, while fellow senior Catherine Muehleib finished sixth with a heave of 44-11 1/2. On the men's side, sophomore Boomer Peterson had a toss of 51-3 3/4 to finish fifth.
Wake will return to action tomorrow to finish up the final day of the meet.
