Track and Field Completes Carolina Classic

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams completed the Carolina Classic on Friday on the campus of North Carolina. Several Deacons established new indoor seasonal and personal records at the meet.

On the women's side, sophomore Ashley Spooner ran an 8.04 in the 60 meter dash. Spooner, who also plays soccer for the Deacons, placed 18th in her first collegiate race.

Sophomore Melissa Council had a stellar meet setting a new seasonal and personal best time in the 60 meter hurdles with a mark of 9.01 seconds. Council also ran a season best in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.40, placing fifth in that event. The Cary, N.C. native also ran a seasonal best in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.80, good for seventh.

Freshman Nicole Schappert captured the title in the 800 meter run with a personal best time of 2:12.80. Sophomore Michelle Duffey also competed in the event, running a time of 2:19.19, good for seventh.

Senior Lindsay Neuberger broke her own school record in the shot put with a throw of 15.73 meters. The mark improves her NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Duffey, Brittany White, Jamie Sobolewski and Lauren Henn placed third with a time of 4:05.82.

On the men's side, senior Westin Galloway ran an indoor season best 1:59.28 in the 800 meter run. His time was good for 11th place. Freshman Phillip Warsaw placed two spots behind Galloway with an indoor personal best time of 2:00.08.
 

 

Sophomore Matt Owen placed third in the 3000 meter run with a personal best time of 8:39.99. Fellow sophomore John Compton also ran a personal record time 9:00.99 in the event, placing eighth.

Freshman Brent LaRue placed fourth overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 8.14 seconds. LaRue then placed in a tie for sixth in the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the men's team of Michael Bingham, Midion Smith, Warsaw and Aaron Russell placed second with a time of 3:21.92.
