The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams offered another promising performance this weekend. The Deacons competed at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, in the UNC Invitational in the Eddie Smith Field House.
Melissa Council finished fifth in the 200 meter dash, with a time of 25.60. With a time of 25.94, Diane Anderson placed tenth in that same event. Anderson placed eighth in the 400 meter dash after a 59.10 mark. Council would record a 9.53 in the 60 meter hurdle preliminary event, enough for a 20th place spot.
Jill Miller recorded a 10:17.59 in the 3,000 meter event, good for an eighth place finish.
In field events, Catherine Muehleib tossed for a 12.96 meter shot put score, for a 10th place finish. Freshman Molly Kennedy placed second in the pentathlon, with 3,227 points.
In boy's action, Eric Seely again led the Deacons with a sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash, after running a 22.40. Willie Idlette was not far behind, with an eighth place 22.49. Seely recorded a 400 meter dash time of 49.63 to finish third in that event.
Mike Loyd's 8.02 time in the preliminary 60 meter hurdles event qualified him for the final round in that race. He placed eleventh in the second race, after an 8.04 performance.
Joel Conn paced the distance runners, with a fourth place, 8:42.33 3,000 meter time.
Jesse Richert jumped to 1.97 meters in the high jump, to finish seventh, while Oderah Nwaeze lunged for a 6.53 meter long jump score. He placed 16th in that event. Loyd went on to record a 13.59 meter mark in the triple jump.
Josh Carter threw a 13.47 meter, ninth place shot put score. Mike Piscetelli offered a 12.91 meter effort in that same event. Josh Carter pitched a 15.83 meter weight throw mark, good for a fifth place finish.
In the heptathlon, Michael Bingham tallied 4,856 points. Taylor Wildman joined him with 3,911 points in that event. The two finished fourth and eleventh respectively.
Deacon teams will compete at both the Carolina Classic (Chapel Hill, NC) and the Meyo Invitational (South Bend, Ind.) Feb. 5.
