CHAPEL HILL, NC - The Wake Forest men's and women's indoor track & field teams were in action Sunday at the North Carolina Invitational. The Demon Deacons captured championships in the 3,000m as Jill Miller won the women's with a time of 10:21.90 and Chris Estwanik won the men's with a time of 8:24.72. Wake Forest also won the men's Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:25.68.

Carol Merritt took fifth in both the 200m and the 400m with times of 24.81 and 56.89. Anne Bersagel ran a 4:57.74 in the Mile to finish fourth and Theresa Fath came in fifth with a time of 5:03.81. Catherine Fortin-Major placed third in the 800m with a time of 2:22.21. Kara Mullin finished third in the 3,000m with a time of 10:33.61 and Becca Veenstra placed fourth with a time of 10:37.87. Wake's 4x400m women's relay team captured fourth place with a time of 3:57.60. Rachel Burns cleared 5-3.75 to tie for fifth place in the High Jump. Jill Kovalcik took fifth place in the Pole Vault with a mark of 10-6. Sandra Jenkins reached 42-8 in the Shot Put to finish 3rd.

Estwanik led five Demon Deacons in the 3,000m that finished in the top six as Dave Barrett came in third with a time of 8:33.72, Ted DeVos fourth (8:35.62), Philip Wiles fifth (8:41.73) and Brandon Bartholomew took sixth (8:43.41). Kevin Jones took third place in the Mile with a time of 4:27.06 and Brian Smith finished fourth with a time of 4:27.73. Fabian Davis placed third in the High Jump with a mark of 6-6 and Luke Orman took fourth with a leap of 6-4. Cliff Neal was the runner-up in the Weight Throw with a personal best mark of 62-3.75.

The Demon Deacons will return to action on Jan. 18-19 at Virginia Tech's Pepsi Invitational in Blacksburg, VA. Complete results from the North Carolina Invitational are available at tarheelblue.com.
