Helwick is in his first year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Demon Deacons after lettering four years at the University of Tennessee where he served as track team captain in 2007 and became a 7-time All-American.
At the start of 2008, Helwick placed second in the men's heptathlon at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational in Madison, tallying 5,447 points.
