FLUSHING MEADOW, NY-- Wake Forest's David Loewenthal, Brett Ross and Andrew Simpson traveled to New York where they competed in the USTA National Open from December 27-30. Juniors, college players and professionals showed up to compete against each other in the annual tournament held at the USTA National Tennnis Center in Flushing Meadow, NY.
Loewenthal captured the men's singles championship in 2002, but was forced to withdraw from this year's competition after suffering an injury. Ross and Simpson each won their first two singles matches before falling to ranked opponents. But Ross and Simpson proved to be unstoppable as a pair, winning four consecutive matches while dropping just one set and walking away with doubles championship.
