Loewenthal Competes on the Professional Circuit

Nov. 17, 2004

Puebla, Mexico - David Loewenthal, a former Wake Forest tennis star, has continued his career by entering into the professional tennis circuit. After participating in numerous tournaments across the world, Loewenthal is establishing himself among many of the up-and-coming players of the game. One of Loewenthal's most recent successes came during the X Challenger Britania Zavaleta Tournament in Puebla, Mexico, Nov. 15-21.

In the qualifying rounds, Loewenthal was seeded number seven. Loewenthal defeated Venezuela's Mikhail Lew, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round. He picked up another win against Jorge Rangel of Peru, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round. Loewenthal advanced to the main draw after defeating Mexico's Carlos Palencia, 7-6(6), 6-3 in the last qualifying round. The defeat of Palencia, the fourth seeded player in the qualifying rounds, was a huge victory for Loewenthal.

After progressing to the main round of the tournament, Loewenthal was defeated in the first round by the number five seeded player Jean-Julian Rojer of Netherlands-Antilles, 2-6, 1-6. Despite this loss, Loewenthal is proving that he will establish himself as a strong competitor on the professional tennis circuit.
