College Station, Texas - Three-time All-ACC tennis player Derrick Spice saw his collegiate career come to a close on Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Singles Tournament, as he fell 6-4, 6-2 to California's Conor Niland.

Spice ends his career as one of the most successful players in Wake Forest history. The native of North Olmsted, Ohio, played in the top half of the Deacon lineup for the majority of his four years. He won 89 singles match, tied for the fifth-most in school history. His 83 doubles victories are the third-most in Wake Forest history.

As a senior, Spice owned an 18-17 singles record with a national ranking as high as 31st. In doubles, he owned a record of 17-13. Spice and Brett Ross climbed to 16th nationally.

The 2002 ACC Rookie of the Year, Spice is the only player in Wake Forest history to have made the All-ACC team three times. He was chosen to participate in the NCAA Singles Tournament as a junior and a senior.
