ATHENS, Ga. -

Wake Forest senior Todd Paul was upset in the opening round of the singles portion of the NCAA Tennis Championships on Wednesday morning, falling to LSU's Ken Skupski 6-2, 6-3. 

Seeded No. 9-16, Paul went down early in the match and was unable to recover to his 24th-ranked opponent.  The loss concluded Paul's illustrious singles career at Wake and ended his season with a 32-9 record.

The tournament is not over for the Stamford, Conn., native, however.  He will team with Mariusz Adamski for the doubles portion of the event, playing on Thursday at a time that has yet to be determined. 

The tandem will square off with Texas' Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala in the first round.  The team is 18-10 this year, including a 15-7 mark at number one doubles. They finished the year as the Big 12's top doubles team, going 5-1 in conference play.

Adamski and Paul, currently ranked ninth, are 19-9 since joining together this spring, including a 5-3 mark against nationally-ranked opponents.

Like the singles, the doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., hosted by the University of Georgia.
