Men's and Women's Tennis To Learn NCAA Fate Tonight

May 3, 2006

Indianapolis, Ind. - The NCAA will release the pairings for the men's and women's tennis championship on Wednesday night at approximately 8:30 p.m. eastern time on ESPNEWS. The men's team is expecting to receive a bid for a sixth straight season and the seventh time in 10 years under head coach Jeff Zinn, while the berth for the women would be the 12th overall and third consecutive.

Both the men's and women's tournaments have a 64-team field and 16 schools will host the first and second rounds at campus sites. The remaining 16 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Palo Alto, Calif., hosted by Stanford.

The Wake Forest men's team, ranked 28th nationally, enters the NCAA Championships with a 15-10 record. The Deacons went 6-5 in the ACC regular season and advanced the conference tournament semifinals before being ousted by 10th-ranked Miami, 4-3.

The Deacons have reached the round of 32 in two of the past three years, the best showing in program history.

On the women's side, No. 21 Wake Forest closed out the regular season with a 13-9 overall record and a 5-5 mark in the ACC. In the conference tournament, the Deacs advanced to the second round before falling to No. 12 Duke, 4-0.
