GREENSBORO, NC - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the all-conference team for men¡¦s tennis Friday as well as the player, rookie and coach of the year awards. Wake Forest¡¦s Derrick Spice was honored as the Rookie of the Year. David Loewenthal, David Bere, Trent Brendon and Spice each earned All-ACC honors. Spice is the first Demon Deacon to be named the ACC Rookie of the Year and this is the first time Wake Forest has ever had more than two All-ACC selections.

Spice, a true freshman from North Olmsted, OH, has led the Demon Deacons in singles wins this year with a sparkling 36-12 record, breaking the previous school record of 30 single-season singles victories, easily. Playing mostly at the No. 3 position in singles, Spice accumulated a 7-1 mark against conference foes. In doubles action, Spice and partner Mike Murray tallied a 20-8 record this season, including a 15-5 mark in the No. 2 slot and a 7-1 record in the ACC.

Loewenthal, a sophomore from Franklin Lakes, NJ, is ranked 36th in singles and owns a 30-12 singles record, including a 15-6 dual match mark ¡V all at the No. 1 position. In doubles, Loewenthal and partner Trent Brendon have accumulated a 26-10 record this year, including a 13-7 mark at No. 1 and a 5-2 record in the ACC. Brendon, a junior from Victorville, CA, is 28-11 in singles play this season. He recorded a 12-4 mark at the No. 5 position and a 5-3 record against ACC opponents.

Bere, a junior from Midland, MI, has also tallied a 30-12 singles record this season. He has gone 6-2 in the ACC, all at the No. 2 spot. In doubles play, Bere and Justin Kaufmann have a 10-9 dual match record, playing all but one match at the No. 3 position.

Wake Forest, 17-5 overall and ranked 26th in the nation, is coming off a 4-2 loss to then-ranked No. 25 North Carolina in the semifinals of the ACC Championship April 20. The Demon Deacons await a bid to the NCAA Tournament, which will begin May 10-12 at regional sites.
