Men's Tennis Begins ACC Slate With NC State

March 13, 2006

Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest tennis team swings back into action at 3:00 pm Tuesday afternoon at Leighton Tennis Stadium against 25th-ranked NC State. The match serves as the ACC opener for the Demon Deacons.

The Deacons (7-4) are ranked 33rd in the latest ITA poll. Individually, Wake Forest has two juniors nationally ranked in singles. Todd Paul is 10th and Andrew Hamar is 76th.

The Wolfpack is coming off a narrow 4-3 loss to fourth-ranked Duke in their conference opener. For NC State (14-2), it was only their second loss of the season.

The Deacons and Wolfpack have had four common opponents this season. Both schools defeated East Carolina and Old Dominion and lost at Louisville, NC State defeated South Carolina, while the Deacons lost to the Gamecocks. The Wolfpack are led by 63rd-ranked Nick Cavaday, a sophomore from London. None of Wake Forest's players have faced Cavaday.

Wake Forest leads the all-time series with NC State 33-7, including the last six meetings and a 4-3 win last season in Raleigh.

Following Tuesday's match, the Deacons will be on the road for their next three matches -- including voyages to North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
