Men's Tennis Signs Cory Parr For 2006 Season

March 2, 2005

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Cory Parr, a highly-ranked prep tennis player from Jericho, N.Y., has signed a national letter-of-intent to play for Wake Forest, head coach Jeff Zinn announced on Wednesday.

Parr, a left-hander, will come to Wake Forest next year with an already impressive resume. In 2004, Parr was ranked third nationally in the USTA in the B16 division. In the Eastern Region, he has been ranked as the top player for the last two years.

"We're very excited to have Cory join our program," Zinn said. "He is the kind of individual, both as a player and a person, who can help us compete for championships."

Last summer, Parr was the singles champion at the USTA National Open in Allenwood, N.J. He finished third at the National Clay Court Championships in Rockville, Md., and was a quarterfinalist at the National Hard Court Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich.

In Eastern Region Tournaments, Parr owns five singles tournament titles.

While playing for the Jayhawks of Jericho High School in New York, Parr was the 2004 New York State Singles Champion, 2004 Nassau County Singles Champion, 2003 New York State Doubles Champion and the 2002 Nassau County Doubles Champion.
