MEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO PURDUE, DOWNS UNCG
The men's tennis team split its two matches last Saturday, Feb. 12. The Deacs lost in the first match to the Purdue Boilermakers 3-4, then defeated the UNC Greensboro Spartans 6-1 in the second. In the loss to Purdue, Raul Munoz played No. 1 singles. Munoz was defeated by Jason Marshall 4-6, 4-6. Wake won at the second, third and fourth positions. Freshman Michael Murray defeated Derek Miller at No. 2, 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4. Michael Berger played at No. 3, defeating Laith Al-Agba 6-3, 6-3 and at No. 4 Johan Hansen defeated Scott Mayer 6-4, 6-4. In the win over UNC Greensboro, Wake won the doubles point as well as five of the six singles matches. Munoz once again played at No. 1, defeating John Clark 6-1, 6-1. Murray played at the second position, losing to Tony Mule 6-2, 5-7, 4-6. Berger followed at No. 3, defeating Diego Goya 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. With the two matches, Wake is now 3-2 on the season and will play this weekend on the road at William & Mary on Saturday and Old Dominion on Sunday.

MEN'S TENNIS TO SPEND WEEKEND IN VIRGINIA
The men's tennis team will spending this weekend in Virginia, playing Saturday at William & Mary in Williamsburg and then Sunday at Old Dominion in Norfolk. In the 1999 season, Wake played each team once. The Deacs lost to William & Mary 1-4 on Jan. 30 of last year and defeated Old Dominion 6-1 on Feb. 20.

DEACS HIT THE ROAD
Of the Deacons 18 remaining dual matches and one tournament left on the schedule, they will play a total of five of those in Winston-Salem. After three straight road matches, they will host the South Carolina Gamecocks on March 2, then they won't play at home again until March 29 when they host Duke. The team will finish the season with three consecutive home matches. They take on Virginia Commonwealth on April 8, Georgia Tech on April 9 and North Carolina State on the 14th.

FRESHMAN IN ITA RANKINGS
Freshman Michael Murray made his debut in the ITA singles rankings this week, entering the poll at No. 100. Murray i currently 14-4 overall this season and is 3-1 in dual matches. He has competed at both the first and second spots so far this season.

2000 SINGLES/DOUBLES RECORDS
Michael Murray's 14-4 record leads the team so far this season. Murray was 9-2 in the fall season. Michael Berger has compiled an 11-7 record for the season. Berger was 5-6 in the fall, but is 4-0 so far in dual matches and is 2-1 in tournaments. David Bere currently holds a 9-5 record. He has a 3-0 dual match record and was 5-4 in the fall and 1-1 in tournaments.

HEAD COACH JEFF ZINN
Head coach Jeff Zinn is in his fourth season as head coach of the Wake Forest men's tennis program. He has compiled a career record of 136-104. Zinn coached Wake to its first ever NCAA Regional appearance in 1998. Before coming to Wake, he had coaching stints at both Northern Kentucky (1990) and Arkansas-Little Rock (1991-96). While at Arkansas-Little Rock, Zinn was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year in both 1992 and 1994. His teams made NCAA Regional appearances in 1995 and 1996. In his one season at Northern Kentucky, Zinn led the team to a first place finish in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
