TEAM LOOKING TO IMPROVE ON LAST SEASON
Wake Forest's men's tennis team enters the 2000 Spring Season looking to improve on the 1999 season. In 1999, the Deacons went 11-15 overall and 3-5 in ACC play. Wake does return most of its lineup from the 1999 campaign. Raul Munoz should lead the way this season. Munoz, a junior, played at the No. 2 position last season. The Deacons also return Michael Berger, Johan Hansen, Justin Kaufmann, Brett Mauro and doubles-specialist Andres Guzman.

COACHES SIGN STELLAR RECRUITING CLASS
The Wake Forest men's tennis coaches signed a stellar 1999 recruiting class. Leading that class is Michael Murray. Murray, a freshman from Clearwater, Fla., posted a record of 9-2 in the 1999 fall season. David Bere, a product of Midland, Mich. will also be joining the men's tennis team. Bere posted a 5-4 record this fall. Another freshman, Trent Brendon of Victorville, Cal., had a productive fall, compiling a record of 4-3. Also in this year's signing class were Mark Grae, who went 3-3 in the fall and Brian Murphy, who posted a 3-2 fall record.

DEACS OUTSTANDING AT HOME IN 1999
The Deacons's posted an overall record of 8-2 at home last season, winning their first eight home matches. Wake lost its final two matches at Leighton Stadium to top 25 members Clemson and Virginia. Home victories included a 4-3 upset victory over then No. 17 Florida and the Deacons first victory over North Carolina since 1988. Wake was 3-2 in ACC play in the friendly confines of Winston-Salem with wins over Florida State, Maryland and the Tar Heels.

1999 FALL REVIEW
The Deacons's had some outstanding performances in the fall of 1999. Freshman Michael Murray led the team, posting a 9-2 record in the fall. Andres Guzman went 6-2 and Justin Kaufmann posted a 6-4 record during the fall season. On the doubles side, Murray and Michael Berger went 6-2, while Mark Grae and Guzman were 4-0 in the fall and Kaufmann and Trent Brendon were 5-2.

DEACONS HOST THE ACC INDOORS
Wake Forest hosted the 2000 ACC Indoor Championships last month at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center. The Deacons placed three players (Michael Berger, Raul Munoz and Michael Murray) in the round of 16. The doubles duo of Munoz and Murray advanced to the semifinals of the doubles bracket. Murray ran his record to 11-3 with his success at the ACC Indoors, while Munoz improved to 2-2 and Berger ran his record to 7-7. As a doubles team, Munoz and Murray improved their record to 2-1.

DEACONS OPEN SPRING SEASON WITH TWO VICTORIES
Wake Forest hosted the East Carolina Pirates and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks on Saturday Feb. 5. The Deacs defeated ECU 7-0 in the first match. In the second, Wake defeated the Seahawks 6-1 to begin the spring season at 2-0. On Saturday, Feb. 12, Wake will once again host two schools when they take on the Purdue Boilermakers at 10 a.m. and the UNC Greensboro Spartans after.
