Winston-Salem, N.C. -
Junior Brett Ross, sophomore Todd Paul, and Senior Derrick Spice have been ranked in the top-100 among all Division I college tennis players in singles, announced on January 11, 2005 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Ross finished the fall season with a singles record of 9-5, as well as an impressive run at a number of the fall tournaments. In the 2004 ITA All-American Championship, Ross reached the round of 32 where he was defeated by Harvard's Jonathan Chu. Ross also had success at the Crimson Tide Fall Tournament, where he reached the quarterfinal round. According to the ITA rankings, Ross is currently the highest ranked Wake Forest player at #66.
Paul completed fall tennis action with an overall 4-5 record. At #70, Paul also represents the Deacs in the top-100 singles players in Division I. After concluding the fall season with a record of 4-7, Wake Forest's Spice is also included in the top-100 with a current ranking of #76.
Ross and Spice have claimed their spot as the nationally ranked #35 doubles team among the top-60 doubles teams in Division I. After completing their fall season with a record of 6-3, Ross and Spice are one out of eight doubles teams in the ACC to break into the top-60 rankings.
Wake Forest head coach Jeff Zinn expects the Deacs to continue on in their success during the upcoming spring season. "The coaching staff is excited about this upcoming season. We have a very talented group of young players and some of them were battle tested last year in the ACC season. They will learn from that experience and hopefully incorporate that seasoning into a successful spring," Zinn said.
The Deacons will open their spring season on January 28, 2005 with a home match against East Tennessee State at 3:00pm in Leighton Stadium.
