CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -
The Wake Forest men's tennis team wrapped up its
third day of competition Friday at the ITA Region II Championships.
After winning three matches in qualifying play, David Loewenthal, David
Bere, Justin Kaufman, Trent Brendon, and Brett Mauro bowed out in the
first round of singles match play. Raul Munoz and Mike Murray picked up
victories though, advancing to the round of 32.
Munoz blasted by Jody Strik of William & Mary 6-1, 6-4. He will face
Rodrigo Laender of Old Dominion on Saturday morning in the round of 32
of singles match play.
Murray waxed NC State's Matt Lucas 6-1, 6-3. The sophomore sensation
will next play Marko Gojanovic from Clemson bright and early Saturday
morning in the round of 32 of singles match play.
In doubles action Murray teamed up with Justin Kaufman to battle past
James Cameron and John Chesworth of Furman by the score of 8-6. They
will take on Patrick Brown and Trevor Spracklin of William & Mary.
Meanwhile David Loewenthal and Raul Munoz dropped a pair from Virginia
Commonwealth's Florian Marquardt and Fernando Sanchez, 8-4. The Demon
Deacon duos advance to the sweet sixteen of doubles match play.
The ITA Region II Championships will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 5.
