David Loewenthal, a sophomore men's tennis player for Wake Forest, split his last two singles matches Sunday at the ITA Region II Championships to finish as the Runner-Up to champion Roger Anderson from Georgia Tech. Loewenthal, who hails from Franklin Lakes, NJ, upset top-seeded Florian Marquardt of Virginia Commonwealth in the semifinals, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 before dropping 6-1, 7-5 to Anderson in the finals.

The singles finalists and doubles champions from all 17 ITA Regional Championships earn automatic spots into the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 8-11 at the Brookhaven Country Club near Dallas in Farmers Branch, TX. As a singles finalist from the Region II Championships, Loewenthal qualifies for the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.

Loewenthal led the Demon Deacons with 29 singles wins last year as a true freshman, placing him in a tie for third place in school history for single-season singles victories.
