Wake Forest's Spice Rolls Into ITA Regional Semifinals

Oct. 25, 2003

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-- Wake Forest's Derrick Spice continued his strong play at the ITA Regionals on Saturday, winning two matches without dropping a set. Spice had no problems with Clemson's Jarmaine Jenkins, taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory on Saturday morning. That match propelled Spice into the quarterfinals where he eliminated Virginia's Stephen Rozek with a 6-3, 6-2 win. The 11th-seeded Spice will take on second-seeded Ludovic Walter of Duke in one of Sunday's semifinal matches.

In other action from Saturday, 16th seeded Andrew Hamar dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Florida State's Mat Cloer in the round of 16. Cloer is the number one overall seed at the tournament. Wake Forest's seventh-seeded doubles team of Brett Ross and Spice was also eliminated from competition on Saturday. The pair fell 8-6 to Clemson's Jenkins and Nathan Thompson in their quarterfinal match.

Action from the ITA Regionals in Chapel Hill continues at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
