Bates, Sartor, and Strauss Compete in the USC Men's Fall Invitational

Columbia, SC - Joe Bates, Charles Sartor, and Liron Strauss represented the Demon Deacons at the 2004 USC Men's Fall Invitational on October 15-17. Strauss began his play in the A-1 Singles draw, round of 32, against Georgian Southern's Vincent Patry. Patry defeated Strauss 6-3, 6-3.

In the B-1 Singles draw, Sartor defeated UNC-Wilmington's Robbie Paul in the round of 32, 6-0, 6-2. Sartor's success continued in the round of 16 against South Carolina's Kazuya Otani with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory. Then, Sartor bowed out in the quarterfinal round to Felipe Abreu of Belmont, 1-6, 6-3, 2-6. Wake's Joe Bates began his play in the A-B Singles draw against Coastal Carolina's Florentin Meynie in the round of 32. Bates defaulted to Meynie due to an injury.

Doubles action began for the Deacs in the A-1 Doubles draw. The team of Bates/Strauss was defeated by Armstrong Atlantic's Jeremy Mastnak and Tuauo Roos in the round of 16, 5-8.

Sartor paired up with Armstrong Atlantic's Dominic Soeur in the B-3 Doubles draw. Sartor/Soeur defeated UNC-Wilmington's Paul and Rahul Rajkhewa in the quarterfinals, 8-5. In the semifinals, Sartor/Soeur claimed a victory over Armstrong Atlantic's Ross Hopper and David Secker, 8-5. Sartor/Soeur won the B-3 Doubles draw after their triumph over Zack Glanker and Hector Rincon of Presbyterian College, 8-5.
