Spice Falls in First Round of NCAA Singles Championship

TULSA, OK.-- Wake Forest junior Derrick Spice was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship on Wednesday by Arkansas' Adrians Zguns at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Zguns dropped the first set to Spice, but rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory in three sets.

Spice entered the tournament ranked 57th in the nation and finishes his All-ACC 2004 season with a 16-17 overall singles record. In Wake's dual matches, Spice played No. 1 singles all season, racking up eight wins, including five against opponents ranked higher than him.

Zguns advances to the second round where he will face the winner of the match beween Baylor's Benjamin Becker and Duke's Ludovic Walter.
