Results

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team's first-ever NCAA Tournament home match went off without a hitch as the Deacons breezed past Charlotte, 4-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Deacons (22-6) advance to Saturday's second round to face Clemson.  The Tigers handled Elon, 4-0, later on Friday afternoon.

Against the 49ers, Wake Forest head coach Jeff Zinn unveiled new doubles pairings at numbers two and three. The strategy worked according to plan as the Deacons had little trouble with the 49ers.

At number three, Steven Forman and Cory Parr played together for only the second time this year. They defeated Charlotte's number three team, 8-2. At number one, ninth-ranked Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski defeated Charlotte's top team, 8-3.

Wake Forest's number two pair, Andrew Hamar and Charles Sartor, teamed up for the first time this season. They were leading 7-2 when the match was abandoned.

The momentum carried over into singles where the Deacons won each of the first sets. The matches at numbers one, two and three were all abandoned after Wake Forest's three freshmen, Steven Forman, Jason Morgenstern and Andrew Brasseaux all posted straight set victories. Forman's victory was the Deacons' fourth point and sent Wake Forest into the NCAA Tournament second round.

Wake Forest and Clemson are scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.  The Deacons and Tigers will meet for a third time this spring. Clemson won the regular season meeting at home, 4-3. Wake Forest exacted revenge in the ACC Tournament quarterfinal, winning 4-2.
