Winston-Salem, N.C. - Senior All-American Todd Paul tied the school record for most career singles wins, but it wasn't enough as 25th-ranked Florida State upset 11th-ranked Wake Forest, 4-3, at the Wake Forest University Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams.

Paul's victory, a 6-2, 6-2 decision against 99th-ranked Ytai Abougzir, was the 106th his career and tied David Bere for the most singles wins ever by a Demon Deacon.

Wake Forest (20-5, 7-4 ACC) now looks ahead to the ACC Championships beginning Friday in Cary, N.C. The Deacons have drawn the number four seed and will play the winner of fifth-seeded Clemson and 12th-seeded Boston College. Earlier this spring, the Deacons defeated the Eagles. Last weekend, the Tigers upset Wake Forest in Clemson, 4-3.

Against Florida State on Sunday, the Deacons narrowly dropped the doubles point. Wake Forest's number one team of Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski easily defeated FSU's top squad, 8-3, for their fifth straight win. But at number two and number three, Wake Forest lost by identical 9-7 scores, giving the Seminoles an early 1-0 lead.

In singles, Paul evened the score with his straight set victory. But Florida State responded with straight set victories of their own at numbers three, five and six. Jason Morgenstern's loss was his first conference defeat of the season and only his second dual loss of the year at the number six position. As a team, Wake Forest is now 19-2 at number six.

Wake Forest's other points came courtesy of Cory Parr and Andrew Hamar. He defeated 94th-ranked Jean-Yves Aubone, 7-6, 1-6, 10-7 in a super tiebreaker. Hamar, a senior, won his final regular season home match at number four, 7-6, 6-4.

The match, originally scheduled to be played at Leighton Tennis Stadium, was moved indoors because of rain.
