DURHAM, NC - The 45th ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated North Carolina State 5-2 Sunday afternoon to close out the regular season with a 13-9 record and a 5-3 conference mark, the most conference wins the Demon Deacons have had in 20 years. A pre-match decision was made to hold the contest at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, NC, because of damp courts at the Wolfpack Tennis Center and the threat of an oncoming thunderstorm.

NC State jumped out to an early lead by winning the doubles point. David Loewenthal and Trent Brendon defeated NC State's Michael Carducci and Ryan Boward 8-4 in the number two match, but the Wolfpack won the other two. Raul Munoz and Mike Murray dropped the number one match 8-3 to NC State's Eric Jackson and Reinaldo Valor. In the number three match David Bere and Andrew Simpson fell 9-7 to the Wolfpack duo of Brad Kigore and John Davis.

Wake Forest came back in singles play to win five of the six matches and claim the 5-2 victory. The five victorious Deacons won in straight sets. Murray took out Valor 6-4, 6-1 in the number two match, Loewenthal beat Carducci 6-0, 6-1 in the number three match, Bere topped Kilgor 6-3, 6-4 in the number four match, Brendon outplayed NC State's Bryce McGrory 6-4, 6-3 in the number five match and Justin Kaufmann defeated Ryan Boward of NC State 6-3, 6-4 in the number six match. Jackson picked up the only Wolfpack singles victory in the number one match, beating Munoz, 6-4, 6-4.

The Wolfpack falls to 6-18 overall and 1-7 in the ACC. Wake Forest finishes the regular season with a 15-9 record and a 5-3 conference mark, the most ACC wins in a season since the Demon Deacons had six in the 1981. The Deacs will return to action April 19-22 at the ACC Championships in Orlando, FL.
