Men's Tennis Dominates No. 45 Virginia Tech, 7-0

Blacksburg, Va. - Coming off this past weekend's win against North Carolina, Wake Forest earned another ACC victory over Virginia Tech, 7-0. The Deacs captured wins against all of their singles opponents, and also won two out of the three doubles matches. No. 28 Wake improves their winning record to 14-5 (6-3 ACC), while the No. 45 Hokies drop to 13-8 (4-5 ACC).

In doubles play, the team of Derrick Spice and Brett Ross fell to the Hokies' Stephane Rod and Alexei Sergeev, 8-6. As the top-seeded singles player, No. 80 Spice soundly defeated No. 79 Rod in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Ross took out Albert Larregola, 7-6, 6-4.

Wake's second-seeded doubles team, Andrew Hamar and Marius Adamski, defeated Brent Wilkins and Angel Diankov, 8-5. No. 114 Hamar faced Diankov in singles play, where he clinched a 6-4, 6-4 win for the Deacs. Adamski also defeated Matthieu Leboucher in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

The doubles duo of Joe Bates and Todd Paul defeated Larregola and Arvid Puranen, 8-2. In singles play, top-ranked No. 56 Paul took out No. 111 Puranen, 6-4, 7-6(4). As the Deacs' number five singles seed, Liron Strauss defeated Virginia Tech's Sergeev, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 TB.

Wake Forest's last match before the ACC Tournament will be on Saturday, April 16, against the top-ranked, No. 5 Duke Blue Devils in Durham, N.C. The match is set to begin at 1:00pm.
