The Deacons captured wins in all three doubles matches, as well as five out of the six singles matches over ACC rival North Carolina, 6-1. Wake Forest is the first team all year to defeat UNC in all three of the doubles matches. No. 28 Wake Forest improves their record to 13-5 (5-3 ACC), while the Tar Heels drops to 14-6 (4-3 ACC).
Wake Forest began the match with a clean sweep in doubles. Brett Ross and Derrick Spice defeated the top ranked, No. 41 doubles team in the nation, Geoff Boyd and Brad Pomeroy, 8-6. After trailing the Tar Heels, 1-5, Todd Paul and Joe Bates made a huge comeback to clinch the match against Raian Luchici and Jonathan Janda, 9-7. Wake's doubles duo of Marius Adamski and Andrew Hamar solidly defeated David Stone and Ali Mandour, 8-2.
In singles play, No. 80 Spice defeated top-ranked, No. 72 Luchici in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(5). Paul, who was recently ranked No. 56 in this week's ITA poll, took out the Tarheel's Pomeroy, 6-0, 6-7(3), 6-1. Wake Forest's No. 114 Hamar clinched a win over Boyd, 6-4, 7-6(4).
The last three singles match-ups of the day ended in close, three-setters. Ross defeated Derek Porter of UNC, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5. Meanwhile, at the number six singles position, Adamski took out Sebastian Guejman, 7-6(3), 6-7(9), 1-0(12-10 TB). Wake's Liron Strauss fell to Janda, 7-6(2), 5-7, 1-0(12-10 TB).
Wake Forest's next match will be against No. 45 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. on Wednesday, April 13. The match is set to begin at 3:00pm.
