ATLANTA - The 47th ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team lost 6-1 to
No. 25 Georgia Tech in a Sunday afternoon ACC matchup at the Bill
Moore Tennis Center. The Yellow Jackets swept doubles play and then took
five of six singles matches. David Loewenthal picked up the only victory
on the day for the Demon Deacons.
Loewenthal, a freshman from Franklin Lakes, NJ, beat Georgia Tech's
Romain Coirault 7-6, 6-2 in the number two singles match. He teamed up
with Trent Brendon in the number two doubles match, where they lost 8-6
to Georgia Tech's Joao Menano and Coirault. Brendon fell 6-3, 6-1 in the
number four singles match to Stephen Moros of Georgia Tech.
Raul Munoz was overcome by Georgia Tech's Roger Anderson 6-1, 6-2 in the
number one singles match. Munoz and doubles partner Mike Murray lost in
the number one doubles match 8-5 to the Yellow Jacket duo David Wright
and Anderson, who are ranked 44th in the nation. Murray won the first
set 7-6 in the number three singles match over Wright, but lost the next
two, 6-4, 6-3. David Bere and Justin Kaufmann couldn't stop the Rambling
Wreck pair of Moros and Sergoi Aguirre, falling 8-5 in the number three
doubles match. Bere dropped the number five singles match 6-4, 7-6 to
Menano and Kaufmann succumbed to Alex Navinkov in the number six singles
match 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3.
The Demon Deacons fall to 12-8 on the season and 4-3 in the ACC, while
the Yellow Jackets improve to 9-6 on the year and 5-1 in the ACC. Wake
Forest will return to action Monday, April 9, when they take on No. 28
South Carolina, at 2:00 p.m. in Columbia, SC.
