Atlanta, Ga.  - The 11th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team took the sting out of 48th-ranked Georgia Tech, 5-1, to tie the school record for most wins in a season with 19.

The Deacons (19-4, 6-3 ACC) got off to a hot start by winning the doubles point with matching 8-4 wins at numbers one and two.

At the number two position, Cory Parr and Charles Sartor won their 20th match together this season, a team-high. 29th-ranked Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski upped their record to 15-7 since joining together this spring.

Because the Yellow Jackets (5-13, 2-6 ACC) did not have enough players to fill the singles lineup, they forfeited at number six. Staked to a 2-0 lead, the Demon Deacons closed out the team victory with easy straight sets wins from seniors Paul and Andrew Hamar. Paul defeated Jose Muguruza of Georgia Tech, 6-4, 6-2. Hamar upended Austin Roebuck at number four, 6-3, 6-0.

Parr picked up a hard-fought victory at number two, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, to give Wake Forest its final point total.

Wake Forest's 19 wins equals the record set in 1976 and 1980.

Paul became the 10th player in Deacon history to record 30 singles wins in a season.  The most recent Wake Forest player to accomplish that feat was Brett Ross in 2003. With two regular season matches remaining plus the team and individual postseason, Paul has a legitimate chance to break Derrick Spice's school record of 36, set in 2002.

Paul's next victory will tie David Bere for the school's career singles win mark. Bere won 106 matches from 2000-03.

Wake Forest completes the regular season slate at home this weekend with a pair of matches. The Deacons host Miami at Leighton Tennis Stadium on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Florida State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
