CLEMSON, SC - The Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated Clemson 5-2 Friday evening. The 23rd-ranked Demon Deacons won two of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead and then took four of six singles matches to finish off the Tigers.

David Loewenthal and Trent Brendon, beat Clemson's doubles team of Damiisa Robinson and Goran Sterijovski 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles match. Wake Forest's Mike Murray and Derrick Spice won the No. 2 doubles match 9-8 over Micah Thompson and Nathan Thompson. David Bere and Justin Kaufmann lost 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles match to Clemson's Marko Gojanovic and Sander Koning.

Loewenthal, Bere and Spice all won their singles matches in straight sets. Loewenthal topped Sterjovski 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles match, Bere made quick work of Jamin Thompson, beating him 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match and Spice polished off Gojanovic 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 3 singles match. Kaufmann fought past Robinson 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in the No. 6 singles match. Murray and Brendon lost their singles matches.

Wake Forest improves to 15-3 overall and 5-2 in the ACC with the win and Clemson falls to 10-14 and 2-4. The Demon Deacons return to action Wednesday, April 10, when they return home to host No. 24 South Carolina at 3:00 p.m. at Leighton Stadium.
