Deacons Breeze Past #16 Duke, 5-2

Durham, N.C. - The 11th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team rolled past 16th-ranked Duke, 5-2, on Wednesday in Durham. The victory propelled the Deacons past the Blue Devils into third place in the ACC.

Wake Forest (18-3, 5-2 ACC) stayed undefeated on the road at 9-0 and improved its record against nationally-ranked opponents to 14-3.

Wake Forest players combined to win three matches against nationally-ranked opponents. Todd Paul knocked off 69th-ranked Joey Atas in singles, 6-3, 6-3. At number two, 52nd-ranked Cory Parr defeated 48th-ranked Kiril Dimitrov, 7-6, 7-5. In doubles, Paul and Mariusz Adamski upset the nation's fifth-ranked doubles team, Atas and David Goulet, 8-5.

The match was closer than the final score indicated. With the score tied at two, Parr got past Dimitrov, 7-6, 7-5. Adamski clinched the match for the Deacons at the number four position in a third-set tiebreaker.

In the final match on the day, Jason Morgenstern improved his season record to 19-7 by defeating Alex Stone 6-4, 4-6, 3-2. Stone was unable to finish the match because of cramps.

Wake Forest's 18 wins are the most since 1986 and are tied for the third-most in history.  The Deacons can tie the school record for wins in a season on Friday afternoon at 28th-ranked Clemson.  First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
