Wake Forest Steamrolls Boston College, 7-0

April 2, 2006

Winston-Salem, NC - The 25th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory against Boston College on Sunday afternoon at the Upper Eight Courts.

The Deacons won two of the three doubles matches and all six singles matches in straight sets to improve to 13-5 overall and 5-1 in the ACC. Boston College fell to 5-14, 0-7 in the ACC.

Wake Forest asked freshman Cory Parr to play the number one singles position for the first time in his young career. The native of Jericho, N.Y., responded with a 6-3, 6-1 win against BC's Soma Kesthely. Andrew Hamar posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number two singles. Brett Ross won 6-2, 6-2 at number three. At number four, Mariusz Adamski defeated Sam Wagner, 6-4, 6-1. Senior Liron Strauss earned a 6-0, 6-2 win against Brian Hartness at number five. Joe Bates rounded out the Deacon parade of victories at number six with a 6-0, 6-4 win against Dennis Reardon.

For Ross, it was his 95th career singles victory, putting him into a tie for fourth in the Wake Forest record book with former teammate Mike Murray. Ross stands three wins behind Trent Brendon for third place.

Wake Forest has won four in a row, including all three matches on its current homestand. The Deacons have five matches remaining in the regular season. All five opponents are ranked among the top 32, including Wednesday's showdown with fourth-ranked Duke. Last season, the Deacons upset the fourth-ranked Blue Devils in Durham. Wake Forest and Duke meet at Leighton Tennis Stadium Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
