Deacons Bury Boston College, Brown

Providence, R.I. - The seventh-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team completed a Sunday sweep against Boston College, 7-0, and Brown University, 5-2 in Providence, R.I. The Deacons improved their season record to 17-3, 3-2 ACC.

Senior All-American Todd Paul registered his 101st and 102nd career singles win to take over second place in the Wake Forest record book. He passed David Loewenthal and stands just four wins behind David Bere, both former teammates.

In the morning match-up against Boston College, the Deacons coasted to victory. Wake Forest won all three doubles matches with ease and captured all six singles matches in straight sets.

The afternoon tilt against 63rd-ranked Brown was considerably more difficult. The Bears surprised the Deacons by winning the doubles point. Brown took two of the first sets in singles and took the Deacons to a tiebreaker in three others. But Wake Forest turned on the jets and pulled away to win five of the six.

Paul, senior Andrew Hamar, sophomore Cory Parr and freshman Andrew Brasseaux all posted two singles victories on Sunday. Parr and junior Charles Sartor won both of their doubles matches.

The 2007 Demon Deacons are chasing the school record for most team wins in a season. The 1980 team still holds that mark with a 19-3 mark. Wake Forest can inch closer to that record on Wednesday at Duke. First serve in Durham is set for 3:00 p.m.
