The Wake Forest men's tennis team dropped a close match at home on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-3 to William & Mary. The match took place at the WFU Indoor Tennis Center. The loss drops the Deacons' season record to 10-7 overall, while William & Mary improves to 10-9 on the season.

The Tribe picked up the first point of the match, gaining the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. The Wake Forest duo of senior Raul Munoz (Mexico City, Mex.) and junior Justin Kaufmann (Mission Hills, Kan.) fell at No. 1 to the nation's 42nd-ranked duo of Trevor Spracklin and Patrick Brown of William & Mary, 8-4. The Deacs did pick up a win at No. 3 doubles, where sophomore Trent Brendon (Victorville, Calif.) and freshman David Loewenthal (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) battled to a 9-8(3) victory over the Tribe's Chris Erikson and Joe Brooks.

William & Mary then sealed the victory by winning three of the top four singles matches. At No. 1, Spracklin defeated Munoz in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Brown also needed three sets to top Deacon sophomore Mike Murray (St. Petersburg, Fla.) at No. 2 singles, winning 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, W&M's Geoffrey Russell defeated sophomore David Bere' (Midland, Mich.), 6-1, 6-4.

The Deacs picked up three straight-set singles victories, including No. 3, where Loewenthal won 6-4, 7-6(4) over Brian Lubin. At No. 5, sophomore Trent Brendon (Victorville, Calif.) won 6-1, 7-5 over Erikson; and Wake's Kaufmann put away Matt Davis, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.

The men's tennis team, in the middle of a four-match homestand, returns to action on Wed., April 4 versus ACC-rival North Carolina. The match is the first of a doubleheader with WFU women's tennis, who hosts the Tar Heel women's team immediately following the men's match. Action is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Leighton Tennis Stadium.
