WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The 42nd ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team lost
4-3 to No. 45 Virginia Saturday afternoon at Leighton Stadium. The Demon
Deacons split the singles matches 3-3 with the Cavaliers, but lost the
doubles point.
Wake Forest lost the number one doubles match 8-6 when Mike Murray and
David Bere fell to the third ranked doubles team in the nation, Huntley
Montgomery and Brian Vahaly. Raul Munoz and David Loewenthal dropped the
number two doubles match 8-6 to Wahoo's Tommy Croker and Mike Duquette.
Virginia's Jonathan Chou and Brian Hunter battled past WFU's Justin
Kaufmann and Andrew Simpson 9-8 (5) in the number three doubles match.
Virginia won the first three singles matches and Wake Forest took four
through six. Loewenthal and Kaufmann won in straight sets, while Trent
Brendon extended his winning streak to 13 straight with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-3
(9) victory over UVA's Brian Hunter in the number five singles match.
Munoz fell 6-0, 6-3 to the 12th ranked Brian Vahaly of Virginia in the
number one singles match.
The Cavaliers improve to 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in the ACC. Wake
Forest falls to 9-5 on the year and 2-1 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons
will return to action Wednesday, March 28 when they travel to Durham,
NC, to take on No. 3 Duke at 2:00 p.m.
