Results

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The 12th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team won its ninth straight match, defeating ACC rival and 35th-ranked Virginia Tech 6-1 on Friday night at Leighton Tennis Stadium. The Deacons improved to 14-1 overall and 2-0 in the ACC.

Wake Forest is on its longest win streak since a 12-match spree during the 2002 campaign.

Against the Hokies, the Deacons won the doubles point by earning victories at numbers one and two. Virginia Tech won an abbreviated match at number three.

In singles, the Deacons rolled, winning five of the six matches. Freshman Steven Forman wasted no time in defeating Brandan Corace, 6-1, 6-2. Senior All-American Todd Paul defeated another top-50 opponent, 49th-ranked Arvid Puranen, 6-3, 0-6, 6-1. Paul improved his mark against nationally-ranked foes to 12-2.

Cory Parr's victory at number two sealed the team victory for Wake Forest.  He won his match against Nicholas Delgado, 7-6, 7-6.

Andrew Hamar outpaced Yoanne Re in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1. Long after the team result was decided, Jason Morgenstern upended Pedro Graber, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0. The rookie from Old Bethpage, N.Y., has won seven straight and 11 of 12 matches overall at the number six spot.

Mariusz Adamski lost his match at number three singles to Albert Larregola, 6-1, 7-5.

The team's biggest test of the year comes Sunday afternoon when third-ranked Virginia comes to Winston-Salem. The Deacons were ousted by the Cavaliers in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
