The men's tennis team has improved their ACC record with a victory over the Maryland Terrapins, 7-0. The Deacs made a clean sweep of all three doubles and six singles matches. Wake Forest increased their overall record to 11-1 (3-0 in the ACC), while the Terrapins are now 8-5 overall.
The top-seeded team of Brett Ross and Andrew Hamar took out Maryland's Ian Bliss and Troy Demers, 8-4 in doubles play. Hamar defeated Scott Fink at the number three singles spot in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Fourth-seeded Ross also clinched a win for the Deacs over Ben Graham, 6-0, 6-1.
At the number two doubles spot, Joe Bates and Todd Paul defeated the team of Fink and Graham, 9-7. Paul won at the top-seeded singles spot against the Terrapin's Bliss, 6-4, 6-4. Bates defeated Dave Reichsfeld in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
The doubles team of Derrick Spice and Liron Strauss clinched the third doubles victory for the Deacs over Mike Coleman and Josh Brauser, 8-4. As the number two singles seed, Spice took out Demers, 6-3, 4-6, 10-2(TB). In singles, Strauss defeated Brauser, 7-5, 6-4.
Wake Forest will play again on Tuesday, March 22, against South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. The match is set to begin at 2:00pm. South Carolina currently has an overall record of 12-5.
