No. 24 Wake Forest Defeats No. 39 N.C. State, 4-3

March 16, 2005

Raleigh, N.C. - The Demon Deacons captured their second consecutive ACC win of the season against the North Carolina State Wolfpack, 4-3. Wake Forest won all three doubles matches, as well as secured three out of the six singles matches. The Deacs improved their record to 10-1 overall (2-0 in the ACC), while N.C. State maintains a 14-4 record (1-2 in the ACC).

In doubles play, the top-seeded team of Brett Ross and Andrew Hamar took out N.C. State's Nick Cavaday and Mason Schermerhorn, 8-6. At the number three singles spot, #77 Hamar defeated Andre Iriarte in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Ross fell to Will Shaw, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

At the number two doubles spot, Derrick Spice and Marius Adamski defeated Val Banada and William Noblitt, 8-3. As the Deacs' top-seeded singles player, Spice lost to Cavaday, 6-4, 6-1. Adamski clinched a 7-5, 6-4 win over the Wolfpack's Schermerhorn.
 

 

The doubles duo of Joe Bates and Todd Paul captured the Deacons' third doubles match against Ryan Johnson and Shaw, 8-4. In singles play, #84 Paul defeated Conor Taylor, 6-3, 6-4. Bates fell to N.C. State's Noblitt, 6-2, 6-4.

Wake Forest will play at home against Maryland this Sunday, March 20, at 12:00pm at the Leighton Tennis Center.
