#54 Demon Deacon Men's Tennis Gets Past #19 South Carolina, 4-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 54th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team got past SEC foe and 19th-ranked South Carolina 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Leighton Tennis Stadium.

The Demon Deacons took two of three doubles matches to earn the all-important doubles' point. Andrew Hamar and Brett Ross lost to Marcus Westman and Tom Eklund, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles, but the teams of Derek Spice/Todd Paul and David Lowenthal/Andrew Simpson captured No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectvely.

Spice and Paul were victorious, 8-2, while Lowenthal and Simpson won 8-5.

The Gamecocks captured matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but the Deacs won at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5. Paul defeated Carl Wermee in a three-set thriller, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Hamar swept Pedro Rodrigues, 6-4, 6-2, while Ross handled Knorr, 6-4, 6-0.

Wake Forest returns to action Wed., March 17 at Furman. First-serve is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
