In its ACC opener, the 23rd-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team knocked off 62nd-ranked Miami 4-3 on Thursday afternoon in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Deacons (9-1, 1-0 ACC) and Hurricanes (7-3, 0-2 ACC) were rained out on Wednesday, but the skies cleared on Thursday.
Wake Forest clinched the game-winning match at #5 singles where freshman Marius Adamski rallied from a set down to beat Miami senior Luis Manrique, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Deacons fell behind by dropping the doubles point, but captured points at the top of the singles lineup in straight sets. Playing #1 singles for the first time this spring, 84th-ranked Todd Paul defeated 87th-ranked Josh Cohen. Derrick Spice dropped to #2 singles and picked up one of his most impressive victory of the spring, defeating 64th-ranked Tim Krebs 6-4, 6-2.
Wake Forest also got a point at #4 singles where Brett Ross beat John Hoyes in three sets.
In doubles, the Deacons dropped two of the three matches, but Paul and Joe Bates earned a victory at number three.
The Deacons will be off until next Wednesday, March 16 when they face NC State in Raleigh.
