Men's Tennis Upset At 30th-Ranked Louisville, 5-2

Feb. 25, 2006

Louisville, Ky. - The 15th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team couldn't shake off the rust, falling 5-2 to 30th-ranked Louisville on the road Saturday. The Cardinals extended their home winning streak to 47 matches, including three straight ACC opponents. The Deacons were playing their first match in 13 days.

Wake Forest (6-2) narrowly lost the doubles point. The Deacons' number one and number two doubles teams took the Cardinals into tiebreakers, but couldn't come away with victories in either match.

Louisville (7-2) took that momentum into singles winning four of the six matches. 15th-ranked Todd Paul defeated Slavko Radman 6-4, 6-3 at the top spot. Freshman Cory Parr eased past Stefan Naughton, 6-0, 6-1 at number six singles. But the Cardinals won the middle four singles matches, all in straight sets.

The Deacons return home this week for a pair of weekday matches. On Monday, the 68th-ranked Furman Paladins roll into town and Wake Forest hosts 31st-ranked South Carolina on Tuesday. Both matches begin at 3:00 p.m.
