Columbia, S.C. -  The Wake Forest men's tennis team handed South Carolina its first loss of the season, taking a 4-2 decision in Columbia, S.C. on Wednesday afternoon.

The Deacons (8-1) got off on the right foot by easily capturing all three doubles matches. At number three Andrew Hamar and Andrew Brasseaux won 8-1. Cory Parr and Charles Sartor clinched the opening point by winning at number two, 8-4. Moments later, Todd Paul and Mariusz Adamski completed the sweep, winning 8-4 at number one.

In singles, Paul continued his dominance by defeating Pedro Rodrigues, 6-1, 6-3. The senior All-American upped his season record to 19-2, including an 8-0 mark in the spring. Paul has not dropped a set in any of his last eight matches.

At number two singles, Cory Parr outlasted Pedro Campos, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. That victory gave the Deacons a 3-0 lead.

South Carolina (6-1) threatened briefly by capturing wins at the number three and four positions. Adamski's loss at number came in a third-set tiebreaker and snapped a seven-match spring win streak for the junior from Poznan, Poland.

But freshman Steven Forman put the Gamecocks away with a straight set 6-2, 6-4 win at number five. The native of Del Mar, Calif., improved to 8-1 since coming to campus this spring.

Jason Morgenstern's match against Spencer Feldman at number six was abandoned early in the first set.

Wake Forest will be idle this weekend. The Deacons return to action on Saturday, February 24 against Louisville at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
